Shooting Classes    (Get 1 shooting class participant FREE, see how below)

Safety is the primary goal. Conscientious attention to these rules will prevent most, if not all, gun accidents. Be aware that ignorance and carelessness lead to accidents in all walks of life, including the handling of firearms.

NRA Primary Gun Safety Rules
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

NRA FIRST Steps Courses: $60.00
(Request Info)      (Register for a class)
FIRST stands for “Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training”, a program the NRA developed to meet the need for a firearms orientation program for new gun purchasers. The FIRST Steps program consists of basic courses abbreviated to the most fundamental shooting skills, and the specifics of a particular model of firearm. Because of its narrow focus, First steps courses can be completed in as few as three hours.

  • Pistol (3-4 hours): Students will get the NRA's The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and quick practical lessons on the safe use, cleaning, and storage of their pistol. The practical exercise covers a single pistol shooting position.
  • Rifle (3-4 hours): Students will get the NRA's The Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook and quick practical lessons on the safe use, cleaning, and storage of their rifle. The practical exercise only covers a single firing position.
  • Shotgun (3-4 hours): Students will get the NRA's The Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook and quick practical lessons on the safe use, cleaning, and storage of their shotgun. The practical exercise covers a single position with thrown clay targets.

NRA Basic Shooting Courses: $100.00
(Request Info)      (Register for a class)
Basic shooting courses provide intensive lessons in safety, gun handling, the various types of each firearm, the fundamentals of marksmanship, various firing positions, several practical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of shooting sports and activities.

  • Pistol (10-12 hours): A pistol or handgun, is a firearm designed to be fired while being held in one hand. While such firearms are small and compact, they can be the hardest to learn.
  • Rifle (14-16 hours): A rifle is a long gun designed to be fired with two hands. It has a rifled bore (thus the name “rifle”) and is designed to shoot a specific size of ammunition. Rifles are often used in game hunting and in long range marksmanship competitions.
  • Shotgun (10-12 hours): A shotgun is a long gun designed to be fired with two hands. It has a smooth bore (the inside of the barrel) and is designed to shoot a variety of ammunition, ranging from a solid bullet, called a slug, to multiple projectiles, called shot. Shotguns are often used in bird hunting, and in the sports of trap and skeet.

NRA Personal Protection in the Home: $100.00/$150.00*
(Request Info)      (Register for a class)
Americans own firearms for a variety of reasons, but home defense is among the most common reasons for owning a handgun. To help handgun owners learn more about firearms and home defense, the NRA developed the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. This course focuses on the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family. Students can also learn about their right to self-defense as a law-abiding citizen.

“People who take this course realize the importance of protecting themselves and their families,” said John Howard of the NRA's Training division. “The responsibility of protecting your home falls upon you. The homeowner is the first responder.”

During the eight-hour course, an NRA Certified Instructor will teach students basic defensive shooting skills, how to respond to a violent confrontation, and strategies for home safety. Not sure which gun is right for you and your home? You can learn how to choose a handgun for self-defense, along with continued opportunities to expand your skills.

Although Personal Protection In the Home is considered an NRA Basic course, it’s not for beginners. In order to take this course, students must be law-abiding adults (at least 21 years) and have experience with a firearm. *The cost for this cours is $100 per participant, or $150 for two from the same household.
